The space chimp

They were doing the count down 5 to 1 at the NASA space station. It was 1961 and my heart was pounding out of my chest. The sound of the rocket was like the sound of a big building crashing down to the ground. I heard them say blast off! It took off real fast so I got pushed to the back of my seat. All of my skin was flapping back behind me, like I was a balloon that had just popped.
“Hi, if I did not tell you, I am a Chimp and I have been sent up to space so they could see if it was safe for humans to go up to space”.
When I got out of the atmosphere I heard ‘beep beep’. I pushed the red button. I heard the people at space station say “Tim, Tim, are you there?”
I said “Ohhhh aaaa” which meant yes. I started getting drowsy my eyes would not stay open like there was a magnet pulling them shut. Then I fell into a 65 year sleep.

65 years later…
My eyes started to open for a minute or two I was panicking because I did not know where everyone was. But then I remembered that I was sent into space it was 1961. What year was it now? They sent me into space to see if it was safe for other people to go up to space. The stars were as beautiful as a pearl that had just been cleaned. Then I saw it, the most beautiful thing I had ever seen, earth. I was going back to earth. I was back through the atmosphere, my whole body was shaking it was the most bumpiest ride I had ever been on. The whole space ship was glowing bright red like the sun. The parachute had deployed. I had landed on solid ground.

Part 2
I got out of the spaceship looking if someone was going to greet me, but no one did. I felt sad. When I was coming down from space I thought that the world would still be beautiful. But I thought wrong.

I started walking around looking for people, I did not see one person. Then I saw something moving I do not think it was a human. I went up closer it looked like a monkey but then it took a mask off it was a human.

I said, “Why are you dressed up as a monkey?
He said, “Sshhh they are here!”
I said “Who is here?”
He said “The monkeys”.
I said “When did monkeys come?”
Then he said “Since you left. I was 10 when you left. The next day monkeys came to the city because of the big news of you going to space and they were saying where is Tim they were saying that you got lost when you were a kid. And a this man named Tom had found you and took you home. We said that it was too late you had left to space then they started taking people away. We still do not know where they took them”.
I said “What is your name? My name is Tim.”
Then he said “Hi, I am Zack”.
When me and Zack were walking I saw a graveyard. I ran into the graveyard looking for Tom's name, I found it and knelt down beside it. It said he died in a car crash. A tear dropped out of my eye. Zack said “Did you know him?”
I said “Yes he was my owner”..
I said “It's all coming back to me. I remember my real family and that we were playing tag when I got lost.’
Bang! Something hit me in the back of the head.  I heard Zack say “I am sorry Tim I had to do it to get my family back”.
I woke up in a bed I saw a monkey. First I thought it was Zack but it was a real monkey. It came up to me and said “Tim, is that you?”
I said “Yes, who are you?”
The monkey said that I was his uncle. I said “What I never remember having a brother or sister, maybe they were born after I left?”
I tried to get up but with my old age there was no point trying because one of these days I will pass away and I think that day will be soon. Then another young relation came in with a wheelchair to help me up. He took me to the leader of the chimps. I said “Why have you brought me here?”
He said “Because you went with a stranger and left your family”.
I said “I only went because he was nice and kind not like other people. Anyway who are you?”
“I am Max and since you left with an outsider we have got to put you into a endless sleep now.”
As soon as I heard him say that I ran as fast as I could. I did not need a wheelchair but then I got tired and stopped. But then I saw Zack and his family. When I was looking at his family, a monkey came up to me. Bam! I fell to the ground. I looked at the photo of me and Tom and said “Meet you there Tim”  and they were my last words, I was gone.

  1. Ha Kalim. I am so pleased to see the progress you have made. I was really absorbed by your narrative and it was great to see you using similes to make your writing more interesting and exciting to read. I quickly got interested when you stated where you were and what the date was. I remember that space rocket launch and your story has brought back lots of memories from the 1960's.
Well done Kalim - congratulations Mr Hocking.
