Workshop 1-Themes And Ideas/ Hunger Games/ English

Rich vs Poor: It is more than just money, it is about who has more power, privilege and opportunity's.
Rich- lots of money, more opportunities, power, privilege.
Poor- Less opportunities, no power, less money, disadvantaged.
Rich:
- President Snow, District 1, Caesar, Capitol.
- Capitol: Don't get reaped for the Hunger Games,
- Food- Plenty, Excessive, variety,
- Clothing: Cleaner, brighter, designer, new outfit every day, privilege of choice to co-ordinate what they wear, they have choice.
- Buildings: Bigger, different materials, not worn down, architecture is modern, example of power and privilege.
-Technology: More advanced, they have air ships, trains, they have tracking technology, medical technology, blood scanners, healing balms.
-Children: Children in the capital get presents, get to play, don't work, and don't worry.
Poor:
- District 12, District 11
- District 12:
Buildings: broken, not secure, got holes in roofs, made of wood, very small, don't have much access to materials to make anything better, don't have a lot of power.
-Clothing: Bland, worn out, raggedy, not much variety, old style,
Boys Best Outfits: Broken shirts, button up, trouser/shorts.suspenders. shows us that their clothes dont always fit properly, hand me down.
Girls: Best Clothes: Dresses, shirts/skirts, not good fit.
Coal Miner: Black, grey, dark colours don't show the dirt.
-Technology:
We don't see any, we do see sick people, shows privilege of being healthy, people are always walking, electric fence doesn't work.
-Food: not enough, scarce, hunting for it rations, put you name into the reaping for extra food.
-Children: They have to work, no time to play, When they do get to play they are pushing sticks into he mud, scared to be  reaped for the Hunger Games, not a lot of choice for the future jobs, most people will be coal miners.

SEXXXY Paragraphs:

In the 'Hunger Games', setting is used effectively to show the theme 'Rich vs Poor'. Rich vs Poor is more than just money, it is about who has more power, privilege and opportunities. For instance, we can see the idea of privilege reflected in the physical environments of Distract 12 the Capitol. In District 23, the buildings are worn out, broken down and not secure where as the buildings in the Capatiol show modern design, variation in materials and are built on a grand scale. This makes the audience think about all of the differences in wealth and power between the two locations. District 12 has nothing whilst people in the Capitol are sage and secure in their advanced buildings. The purpose of this was to show that Katniss Everdeen has come from a place of less privilege and power so her success in the games is bet unlikely. Coinciding with this is the use of colour. In the District 12 there are lots of browns and greens whilst in the capital we see a futuristic palette of metallic greys, blacks and silvers. The use of settings and colour effective show us the imbalance of privilege between those living in places like District 12 and the Capitol.

English Work

For the last two weeks in English we have been working on film study. For the first week we watched the movie called the hunger games. The first time that we watch it we watch it for enjoyment but the second time we watch certain parts of the movie and then write the key points of that scene as is seen in one of my previous blog posts. We watch the certain parts so that when we do the essay it is easier to write about since we know more.

P.E

For the last couple of weeks we have been working on teamwork in P.E. since my last blog post we have done volley ball. I don't think that I am that good at volley ball but I still made sure to give it a go. Now that we played volley ball I now know how to serve and how to hit it when it is coming towards you so that it does not hurt your wrist or hands. I think that my team were passing a lot we made sure to hit it around everyone before we hit it back over the net and we made sure to spilt the groups into even skill levels.

English Film Study (Hunger Games)

District 12 Overview: Quite a run down place, Lots of dead trees, no lush and green grass, Houses have holes in walls, Broken windows, the boards to there houses are decaying. There clothes are very boring lots have lots of wear and and just a very dull blue or just grey. They are also always making sure that they get all of the food off of bones or any food they are eating.
What Is The Capitol Like: People wear very bright colours like, pink, blue, purple and yellow. They also wear lots of make-up and have Jewry. They wear lots of tuxedos and dresses but unlike the dresses they wear in district 12 they are a lot cleaner and fancier. The buildings them-self are very different to district 12 because they have stone buildings and water fountains around the place. It is a very clean place you don't see much if any rubbish around and you see around the area there are lots of living plants.
Reaping Scene: Most of the females have to have their hair tied nicely, both male and female must have their shirts tucked in. When someone is picked everyone turns to look at the person and then the person who has been choose who would be very shocked slowly walks up to the stage. There are lots of guards standing around the people to make sure nothing happens. They picks one peace of paper each out of a bowl and male and female and prim rose (Katniss sister) was chosen. When someone is chosen the film goes very quiet so quiet that you can hear her unfold the paper and you can hear prim roses foot steps on the gravel. after that the film starts to move very slowly. Before the people are chosen they watch a video on why the hunger games happen. There are lots of different shots and it keep swapping from the announcer Effie trinket to the crowd of people.
"TV Show" In Capitol: Again lots of people and all of them are wearing very bright and fancy outfits. They have lots of lights at the TV show and all of the screens on the wall which in district 12 the only colour that they now are very dull and grey colours.
Rues Death And Riot Scene: The camera is moving very slow and there are a lot of close ups on rue and Katniss. The music is very sad and then once katniss does the three finger salute it turn to dramatic music and the camera is shaking a lot. You hear a lot of things crashing down and all of the windows. You also hear all of the soldiers marching down the street.
Eating The Poisonous Berry's At The End: When they find out that only one person can wind they both start to move very slowly and and music is again very slow and sad. The camera shots change a lot like they show close ups on the berry's as well as katniss and peeta face. Also when they are told only one person can win katniss has already got her bow ready before she turned around thinking that peeta was ready to kill her as well.
Shooting Apple Out Of Pigs Mouth: The angles that they use show that katniss is lower than them and that the people in the booth have lots of lights and they have food. They also show that the spectators don't really care and they laugh at katniss when she misses the first shot with the bow. She then starts to concentration and then some unknown music starts playing she shoots hit it in the middle but nobody is paying attention. So she then shoots the apple out of the pigs mouth which stuns them and all of the music stops and changes to the high angle because they are now looking back at her. It also does a close up on the pig showing that the apple is pinned agents the wall.
What can people do in district 12 to get more food? Katniss uses her bow to kill birds, deer and mostly squirrels. She can then trade this in for either money or more food. Some other family's that don't know how to hunt get paid from there jobs if they have one and then they uses the money to buy food. For other family's that don't have someone who can hunt or does not have a job they can go in and take some extra rations so food, drinks, oil any thing they need. The down side to this is when they do that their name gets added into the pick an extra time so they have more chances of being picked.

Maths

For the last couple of weeks in maths we have been working on different ways that you use maths with money. On of the main topics we did was discounts. It is important that we learnt this so that when we gets jobs most places will have discounts and now that we are able to know what the price is. We apply this in stores when they have discounts on there items like it could be 20% off everything but you would have to calculate the price yourself.

English Photos Task

For the last two periods of English we have been given two task to do.
The first one we had to do was a dictionary with all of the definitions of words which
I posted the other day. The second thing we had to do was get some photos of
different camera perspectives and then write down the definition of what they are.
  • Extreme Close-up: An extreme close up is when someone will zoom in so
much that you can only see a certain area of the person or the object. So if
someone was to zoom in on the face it makes you focus on that one bit.

  • Close-Up: It is kinda like an extreme close up except you're not as close so
instead of being focused on the face of someone you could be more focused
on a whole person.

  • Medium Close-Up: Usually will get the top half of the body and will show the
facial expression of the character but also leaves a couple of objects around
the outside of the person.

  • Medium Shot: It will usually get the character from the hips and up and leaves
quite a lot objects in the background.

  • Medium Long Shot: This shot usually gets the character from there knees and
up. It is usually used when there are between 2-3 people in the shot. This also shows some objects around the outside to help relate with the character.

  • Long (wide) Shot: This is usually used to place a person or two in a
relationship with there surroundings and shows the whole person in the shot.

  • Extreme Long-Shot: in a lot of extreme long shots it is so far away that people
usually appear as little dots. This can sometimes be used to show how big something is that they are standing next to for example you could have someone standing next to or on the pyramids.

  • Low Angle: A low angle is a shot that is taken from either very close to the
ground or it could be on the ground at the person's feet facing up at them.
An example of this could be a person is in a room and there is a mouse it
could then show the mouse's perspective looking up at the person.

  • High Angle: A high angle shot is the opposite of a low angle shot so instead
of it being close to the ground it would be higher in the air and usually people
would be looking up at the sky. In film this can help make the scene more dramatic
if someone is standing up high above someone.
  • Eye Level: An eye level shot is when a camera is placed at the same level as
your eyes. But in this shot you do not have to be able to see the eyes of the
character and the person does not need to be looking directly at the camera for it to
be an eye level shot.
Birds Eye View: A birds eye view shot is usually used to show a big area by
someone standing up somewhere high which is overlooking the area that you want
to get the picture of.

Dutch Tilt: A dutch tilt shot is a shot that is taken on an angle instead of being
straight up. When this happens it is usually focused on the face of a person or the
upper body.

Pan: A pan shot is used to show a large area that is usually quite wide and
long as well. An example of this could be at the start of a football match where you
could start the shot at one end and then end the shot at the other end.

  • Tilt: A tilt shot is a shot where they will use an upright camera which is able to
move up and down vertically. This could be used when someone is nodding there
head up and down and the camera would follow the motion.

  • Tracking: A tracking shot is any shot where the camera follows an object or a
person in the direction they are moving. This could be up, left, right and also down.
j
  • Point of View: A point of view shot is usually used to show that the character is looking at something and focusing on it. An example of this could be that there is an animal on the ground and then it swaps to the animals perspective which shows the person looking down on it.
  • Over the shoulder: This shot is positioned to look like it is either sitting on the shoulder of the person or it could be behind the person showing there shoulder and a part of there head. This shot is usually used in a conversation.
  • Mise En Scene: It is the way that people stand on the stage and what places they are standing. This is usually used for a theatre or film production.

P.E

For the last term in P.E we have been working on team sports. For the first two weeks we worked on basketball and then we worked on football. We have to explain what teamwork is involved in these sports. In basketball you need to use a lot of communication and you need to pass the ball a lot so that everyone gets a go and the more you pass you have better chances of winning. For football it is the same you need to use a lot of communication especially with your goal keeper and your defenders. You also need to make sure that you are passing a lot.

DTE Robotics Post

For the last four weeks in DTE me and 6 other people were chosen to test out some different robots that that school was given. In total there were three robots one of them was bigger than the others and had a track on each side instead of wheels so it was kinda like a tank. The other two were smaller and had two wheels at the back and one wider wheel at the front. For some reason we could not get the bigger robot to move so we just had to use the two smaller robots.

-Week 1 P1: We started learning what all of the different blocks do and what order we had to put them in. We also learnt how to use the lights and the first thing that we were able to make it do was move forward, stop and then turn around and come back.

-Week 1 P2: Since we had a rough idea on how they worked we started to work on some different codes to see what else we could make it do. We were messing around with them and found out we could take the rubber peaces off of the wheels so we did. We were then able to make it spin around in a circle since it had no grip on the table.

-Week 2 P1: Since we had been messing around with how they move around for the first week I decided to have a look at how the lights work and what I could do with them. The lights were very hard to see unless it was dark and at first I thought there would be quite a big light but it turns out the light was not big at all. I also got to try out the sensors which also did not really work that well. I thought that the object sensor made the robot stop way to far from the object and the light sensors did not really work.

-Week 2 P2: This was our lass lesson that we were able to use the robots so we used the one thing that we had not used yet which was how the sounds work. One of us in the group tried to make it play a song by typing in the notes that it would play. But when we clicked go it only played some of the sounds and did not play the rest.

At the end of it I did end up enjoy being able to use the robots. It would of been better if we were able to use the big robot and maybe if the lights were bigger and brighter as well as it actually played some of the notes that we typed in. It also would of been better if the sensors worked properly. Another thing that I thought would of been better was if it had a battery pack that you could recharge instead of having to replace the battery's with brand new ones every time.

Names:
What we think about The mBot
What we think of the mBot Ranger
Greg
It’s very bad because it often malfunctions and does not run most code correctly which is very frustrating.
It doesn’t work
Austin
They malfunction often and sometimes they just run by themselves. The robot sometimes goes by its self.
It doesn’t work
Aron
They are kind of easy to use but can be annoying to make work. Not efficient when it comes to coding
It doesn’t work
Kalim
It’s 50/50 when it comes to enjoying and the difficult the sensors didn’t really work
It doesn’t work
Andre
It is a cool idea but they don’t always work the way it should
It doesn’t work

Textiles Mask

This week in textiles we had a change in plans and ended up making a mask to go over our mouth and nose. First off we had to grab two bit of material one peace that would be on the outside and one bit on the inside as well as a bit in the middle which the teacher cut out. We then had to put all of them together and grab two bits of thread that would go around out ears. We then put pins around the side and corners of the material and started sewing with the sewing machine. After that we had to pull it through a hole that we left and then iron it flat. Now that we had done that we put a couple of small folds in it and put pins in it so that we could sew around it again. after that we took the pins out and were able to put the mask on and then pull it out so it would fit.

English Language Dictionary

Now in English we are working on film study. Before we actually watch the film we have been giving four tasks and we have to pick two the first one that I have picked is the dictionary where i have to explain the definitions of some words they use in film. The other task that I choose had to do with different camera perspectives

P.E What makes a successful team?

1. Communication
2. Support
3. Resilience
4. Passing

A way that I have been a good team member is by always communicating with my team and making sure that I am always passing the ball around so that everyone gets a turn with the ball.

Home-Ec Practical

On Wednesday in cooking we were making biscuits with jam drops in the middle of them. We started off by getting all of the ingredients and putting them into bowls. After that we put the butter in the microwave so it was softer then added it to the sugar and vanilla essence. We then used a electric beater to mix it all together and then added an egg and the flour. After it was all mixed together we put some flour on the bench and rolled the dough in it. We then put flour on our hands and started to make the dough into biscuit shapes and press our thumb in the middle so we could put the jam there. After we added the jam we put it in the oven on fan bake 180 degrees and left it for 15 minutes. I thought that they were really good and maybe next time we could cook them for a little bit longer because they were a bit soft. And ingredient that has been adapted that might not have been very easy to get a while ago would of been jam because you need a lot of ingredients to make jam and it takes time. This links to our topic because most of the ingredients would of been grown liek wheat for the flour, berry for jam, sugar ect.

How Has technology Changed Peoples Lives?

For the last week in social study's we have been working on finding out what different technology has changed and if has had a positive change on people or a negative change. We also had to say what the technology looked like before it changed and then explain how it has changed.
