DTE Robotics Post

For the last four weeks in DTE me and 6 other people were chosen to test out some different robots that that school was given. In total there were three robots one of them was bigger than the others and had a track on each side instead of wheels so it was kinda like a tank. The other two were smaller and had two wheels at the back and one wider wheel at the front. For some reason we could not get the bigger robot to move so we just had to use the two smaller robots.

-Week 1 P1: We started learning what all of the different blocks do and what order we had to put them in. We also learnt how to use the lights and the first thing that we were able to make it do was move forward, stop and then turn around and come back.

-Week 1 P2: Since we had a rough idea on how they worked we started to work on some different codes to see what else we could make it do. We were messing around with them and found out we could take the rubber peaces off of the wheels so we did. We were then able to make it spin around in a circle since it had no grip on the table.

-Week 2 P1: Since we had been messing around with how they move around for the first week I decided to have a look at how the lights work and what I could do with them. The lights were very hard to see unless it was dark and at first I thought there would be quite a big light but it turns out the light was not big at all. I also got to try out the sensors which also did not really work that well. I thought that the object sensor made the robot stop way to far from the object and the light sensors did not really work.

-Week 2 P2: This was our lass lesson that we were able to use the robots so we used the one thing that we had not used yet which was how the sounds work. One of us in the group tried to make it play a song by typing in the notes that it would play. But when we clicked go it only played some of the sounds and did not play the rest.

At the end of it I did end up enjoy being able to use the robots. It would of been better if we were able to use the big robot and maybe if the lights were bigger and brighter as well as it actually played some of the notes that we typed in. It also would of been better if the sensors worked properly. Another thing that I thought would of been better was if it had a battery pack that you could recharge instead of having to replace the battery's with brand new ones every time.

What we think of the mBot Ranger
Greg
It’s very bad because it often malfunctions and does not run most code correctly which is very frustrating.
It doesn’t work
Austin
They malfunction often and sometimes they just run by themselves. The robot sometimes goes by its self.
It doesn’t work
Aron
They are kind of easy to use but can be annoying to make work. Not efficient when it comes to coding
It doesn’t work
Kalim
It’s 50/50 when it comes to enjoying and the difficult the sensors didn’t really work
It doesn’t work
Andre
It is a cool idea but they don’t always work the way it should
