How to find the area of a triangle

For the last few weeks in math, we have been learning how to find the area of a triangle. Here is a slide show that we made to help people understand how to find the area of a triangle.

Sine Rule

Today in maths we have been learning about the sine rule. First, we had to go on a joint slide show and make our own slide on how you use the sine rule and how it works. We then went through some questions on the board to help understand a bit more.

Here is a picture of the slide that I made about the sine rule. I just briefly explained a little bit that I learned about what the rule is and how you use it.

Biology Osmosis

Today in Biology we started an experiment on Osmosis. Osmosis is a type of diffusion that uses water movement to make the solution Isotonic (even out the concentration). For the experiment, we had to put two spoons of sugar in a beaker with 150ml of water. We had to do this three times one had salt another had sugar and one just had water.

Hypertonic - High
Hypotonic - Low
Isotonic - Equal

Gummy Bear in Water: I think that this gummy bear is going to get the biggest because there is nothing in the water and it will be easy for the gummy bear to absorb the water.

Gummy Bear in Salt Water: I think that this gummy bear is going to get smaller because the salt does not dissolve the same as sugar which means that with all the salt mixed in the water the gummy bear won't be able to absorb much if any water.

Gummy Bear in Sugar Water: I think that the gummy bear in the sugar water is going to get a little bit bigger but not a lot because since there is sugar in the water it won't be able to absorb all of the water.

_____________________________________________________________________________________
Next Day

Gummy Bear in Water: The gummy bear is bigger than it was yesterday but it did not get as big as I thought it would get.it also broke a little bit bit. This means that the gummy bear is hypertonic to the water because the water was able to get in the gummy bear.

Gummy Bear in Sugar: I was right that this gummy bear would get bigger but I thought it would be smaller than the water gummy bear but it actually became the biggest gummy bear. This gummy bear is also hypertonic to the sugar water because it was able to absorb a lot of the liquid.

Gummy Bear in Salt: I was somewhat correct with my guess on how the gummy bear would react because it did not get bigger but it did not shrink either. This means that the gummy bear was hypotonic to the saltwater solution and was not able to absorb any of the liquid.

English: Sexxy Paragraph Draft

 Lighting and Music

In the movie, The Silver Lining Playbook I think that the director has used the film techniques lighting, and music well together.

When Pat is in the hospital the lighting is not very bright. We see him and a few others in the hospital in a room talking and the lighting is very bad and makes a lot of the concrete walls stand out and the lino floor. When he is in the room the lighting is even duller which really brings out the grey concrete walls, bedsheets, and how small the room really is. Just as Pat leaves his room music starts playing. The music is not very uplifting and it can give a lot of mixed feelings. The music continues while he is talking with others and doing his exercise. The music goes on throughout most of the scene but gets very quiet at some points but stops when they get in the car.

I think that the director has used the film technique of lighting and music together because while seeing the lights and how dull the place looks you are also listening to music that makes you feel unsure and confused. For example, when everyone was talking in the room the lighting shows how plain the concrete walls are and the lino floor, and on top of that you are listening to the music which gives you even more emotions and thoughts about the place. When Pat is in his room there is no music playing which makes us focus more on the things around pat which reveal how small and colorless his room is.

Music and Lighting have a big effect on the audience because when we are listening to the music and seeing these dull colourless rooms it makes us feel bored and uncomfortable. The director knew that it would make the audience feel like this because it makes us feel like we are there and we feel what they are feeling which gives an idea of what it is like to live in the hospital.

These two film techniques complement each other but can also work well with facial expressions as the lighting can really target the facial expressions of a character for example if they are in a good mood the light could be bright giving off a happy feeling. Music also works well with facial expressions because the mood of the song can depend on the mood of the character which you can usually tell through facial expressions.

Maths: How to Label Triangles

There are a couple of rules around how to label a triangle and the main ones are around using capital and lower case letters. You do not use this rule with a RAT (right angle triangle) because you only have one of each letter on those triangles.

  • The first rule is that when labeling a triangle all of the angles on the inside of the triangle must be a capital letter.
  • All of the letters that stand for the length of the sides of triangles must be labeled with a lower case letter.
  • You can not have the same letter next to each other. usually, the letters will be opposite each other.
You use these rules because when you are doing an equation having two lower case letters can get confusing because you don't know what one you are talking about.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time

For the last term, my class has been reading a book called The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. We had some questions to answer before we read the book like what we thought the book is about. Now we are answering questions about how we thought the book was.

  • What were your thoughts after reading the ending? What do you think will happen to Christopher?
Comparing what he was like at the start of the book to the end of the book I think that there was a really big difference in the way that he acts. At the start, he was scared to go out by himself and he would not do a lot of stuff. After he had been to his mother's place and then moved back to do his A-level math test a lot had changed because he went on a train by himself and when he was away he had to cope with a lot of things that he didn't like. I think that Christopher will go on to get a career that involves some sort of maths because he is very smart and even though he is still scared of a lot of things he has overcome them once so I think he would be able to overcome them again.

  • What was your favorite funny moment from the novel?
?
  • Look at the following statement and decided whether you agree or disagree with it. Explain your answer.  "The Novel is funny because we are laughing at Christopher".
I disagree with this statement because I don't think we were laughing directly at Christopher maybe some of the things he did were funny but I did not think that there were many things Christopher did to make you laugh at him.

  • Did you find this novel sad?
I did not find this book very sad but there were a couple of sad moments throughout the book. There were two main points in the book that I found sad and they were when Christopher found out that his father had killed the neighbor's dog and that his mother was still alive but his father was hiding all of the letters that she was sending.

  • What do you think Mark Haddon is saying about why there are so many different reactions to the book? What was your response to the book?
I think that the way he has written the book made it so that people can have mixed feelings about it because of the different ways that people think. This means that some people think some parts are happy and other people think they are sad but what he is trying to say is a lot of parts in the book can both be happy and sad moments it just depends on how you see it.

  • In what way do you think the book appeals to teenagers?
  • In what way do you think the book appeals to adults?
  • Some people have said that the book is not very suitable for teenagers because it contains a lot of swearing and because it deals with a depressing matter. Do you agree? why?
I think that these questions can also relate back to how different people feel about the story because teenagers might see the story a lot differently from an adult. Teenagers will most likely understand how Christopher is feeling more than adults but adults might understand more about the parents than teenagers do.
I think that this book is suitable for older teenagers around the age of 14 and up because of all of the swearing and some of the things that happen in the book.

  • Why do you think that Mark Haddon chose to write the story from a first-person point of view?
I think that he has written the novel like this so that people can understand what it is like for Christopher and understand how he is feeling all the time.

  • How has he tried to overcome some of the disadvantages?
I think that he did a really good job at handling some of the disadvantages he had throughout the story. Since he does not like being around a lot of people when he was on the train he found a place very quiet and sat there do the number game in his head to keep him distracted from evderything else around him.

Dissecting the Camera, Sound Production and the Director

 Dissecting The Camera

The guts of the camera:

In a camera, you have the aperture, shutter, gate, and film. The aperture is the opening in the lens that lets a certain amount of light through that changes the amount of light that you can see. The shutter is a part that will open and close at different speeds to either let the light through or keep the light out. This might open fast to have a flashing effect on the scene. The light will then pass through the gate which is in front of the film. When the film is exposed to light it will retain what you are recording.

Lily Gladstone

A camera is a collection of parts that can help you tell a visual story. It takes in light through a lens and captures images, creating that illusion of reality we keep talking about.

Sound Production

Different Microphone Patterns

The microphone pattern is the shape that is around the microphone which affects what sound is recorded and what sound gets blocked out. You will have some that will record sound from all around you and you can have some that will only record sound that is in the direction that it is facing. You can also get some that will only record sound from the sides and front of the other way around. There are a lot of patterns which means that if you want to block out sound from one direction you can.

 Lily Gladstone

And the sad thing is: you don't often really notice good sound recording and design. Even though it takes just as much technical know-how and artistry as visual storytelling does.

The Director

Lily Gladstone

An actor's job is to bring a character to life. And we need actors to think real thoughts and feel real feelings to make the film relatable.

This is incredibly demanding work, so it's up to the director to ensure that the actors have a safe place to explore their characters and to take risks.

To give an actor the confidence they need to inhabit a character, a director must give clear, actionable directions.
