Science Bottle Rockets

For the last couple of days in science we have been making bottle rockets. First we got a bottle and painted it. We then cut out some wings to put on the side. We then used the hot glue gun to stick it to the side. Then the other day we took them outside and we tested them to see how well they flew. We had to put a little bit of water int he bottom and then we used a pump to build up pressure then when there was lots of it it would launch into the sky. Then yesterday we cut the bottles in half and then we turned them into plastic bottle planters. To make them we had to get some of the felt fabric and make sure it can touch the bottom of the bottle we then got some dirt and little stones and put them in there. Then we put the seeds into the dirt and then sat the top half of the bottle into the bottom so that when we put water into the bottom half the water will go up the fabric and water the seeds.

It has been about a week since we platted the radish seeds into the bottles. We took one out of each bottle to see if any of them had grown but none of them had changed. It is now about 3-4 weeks since we planted the radishes in the bottles and they have grown a little bit but there is not really any change. We are most likely going to wait another 1-2 weeks to see if there is any change.

Science Microscopes

For the last couple of weeks in science we have been looking at all of the different cells in animals and plants and we have been looking at what the differences are. On Tuesday we went out to the park across the road to go look for some bugs and we also got some leafs and some other plants that we could look at under the microscope. We were over at the park for nearly the whole lesson so once we got back we had to put all of the living things into a test tube and put Ethanol in ti and then put something over the top so that they could not escape. We did not have science on Wednesday so we had to wait until Thursday to look at them under the microscope. On Thursday first we had to get a microscope and we had the choice of two different types Dissection Microscope and the  Monocular Microscope. With the Monocular Microscope we had to put the plants or the onion onto a little glass slide witch would be clipped into a peace the microscope and then you can look at it through the eye peace. But with the Dissection Microscope you just needed to sit the bug or insect onto the plate under where you look through the eye peace. When I looked at the onion through the eye peace it looked really weird because all that you could see was diamond like shapes that were all connected together. I did not have a really good look at  any of the spiders or other bugs but I did get to use the dissection microscope to have a close look at them. Below are some pictures of what some of the cells looked like.

P.E Gymnastics

This term in P.E we have been doing gymnastics, I would like to learn how to do a backwards roll and then be able to stand up. I would also like to be able to do a forward flip and land on my feet without falling over. The last two thing that I would like to be able to do before the end of the term is a forward dismount on the parallel bars and being able to side mount the beam and then jump over all of the cones.

When we first started to do gymnastics I thought that I would not really like it but after 2-3 lessons of it I started to really enjoy doing it. I have ended up being able to complete a lot of the things that I wanted to do at the start of the unit. I have completed three of my goals but I as still not able to land the forward flip without falling over and i as not able to do a backwards roll. Even though I could still not land a front flip or do a backwards roll I think that I have gotten a lot better at it then what I was at the start of the term.

Science Ecology Organisms

A couple of weeks ago in science we had to think of any animal and then draw it and what we think that there habitat would look like and also some dangers that there could be for the animal.

For this I choose a Unicorn, My Unicorn lives in the forest next to a river, trees and a big cave to keep it warm and dry if there is a storm or any bad weather. The Abiotic Factors of my Unicorns habitat has are that there is always a river going through the middle of the forest which never drys. The weather is always hot in summer and it only rains and is really cold in winter. In spring and autumn the weather is random. The biotic Factors of the habitat are the grass which is there for the Unicorn to eat and also the trees which it also eats. But there is also the other animals that could try to hunt and kill the Unicorn. Some of the things that hunt Unicorns are Big pigs, Lions and Humans or hunt them for there horns.

Greek Gods

In English we have just started to look at Greek Mythology. For this task we have to pick a Greek god explain what they are the god of, Who there parents were and three interesting things they did with there life.
For this I chose Poseidon

Name: Poseidon

What is he the god of? Poseidon is the god of the the sea, earthquakes and horses.

Who was Poseidon's parents? Poseidon is one of the three sons of Cronus and Rhea.

Three things that he did in his life: Poseidon, Zeus and Hades overthrew the titans. Poseidon had children with both humans and goddesses. Poseidon defeated the giant Polybotes by breaking off a piece of the island of Kos and throwing it at him.

Science Sherbet Experiment

The other day in science we did an experiment where we had to make a bag of sherbet.

Aim: To make a bag of sherbet.

Ingredients: Icing Sugar, Baking Soda, Citric Acid, Tartaric Acid, Raro and a small snap lock bag.

Method: When we did this most of us started off by putting a little bit of tartaric acid and citric acid in to the little bag. We then needed to put some baking soda into the bag followed by the icing sugar. You then have to put the raro in when I was going to put some in there was none left but ti still tastes fine without raro. If it is not sour enough then you need to put more tartaric acid into the bag and if it is not sweet enough put more icing sugar in.

Results: It turned out really well for everyone. Just a lot of people used the raro so a lot of people did not have any flavor in there sherbet but it still tasted fine.
