How To Make An Aluminium ID Tag

For the last couple of weeks in metal work we have been making aluminium ID/ name tags. I am going to explain to you how to make an ID/name tag.

At the end of this this is what my looks like hope you like it.

Here are some pictures of some tools that I used when I was making this.
These are the vices that we used to hold the metal in place when we ere cutting it.
This is the drill that we used to drill the hole so that we could clip it onto things.
This is what we sued to measure how long our peace of metal was.
This is what we used to imprint the letters into our work
We used the ruler so we could measure we used the scribber and the square to make a strait line.
This is what we did at the start we had to use the scriber and ruler to mark where to cut it.
This is us cutting the metal where we used the scriber to mark out 40mm
We then started to file down to the line that we had made at the 35mm mark.
We then just kept checking how big it was so that we did not go over 35mm.
We then had to drill a hole in the metal so that something could go through it.

Step 1: Create what design you wont to be on you ID tag. Something like your name a pets name or anything as long as it fits onto the peace on aluminium.

Step 2: Take a peace of aluminium and cut it with a hack saw so that is around 38-37 mm long. You then need to put some engineers ink onto one side of the peace of aluminium and mark out where 35 mm is with a scribber on the peace of metal.

Step 3: You then need to start filing down to where you had marked the 35 mm line. And when you start getting close to the line you need to use a vernier caliper to measure how long the peace of aluminium.

Step 4: Once you have taken the metal down to 35 mm if you want to you can make the corners partly round. You then need to get a peace of sand paper and sand your peace of metal and get any marks out of it.

Step 5: Use what letters or numbers you need and use them to make your word on the peace of metal. After you have done that you have to use the buffer wheel but make sure to not put to much polish on your peace of aluminium.

Some things that I found difficult when we were making this are when we were trying to get it down to right size I had to restart because I messed up the first time but the next time I got exactly 35mm. So that I did not mess up again I made sure to keep checking the measurements for the peace of metal and when it got close I started doing little bits at a time.

The main things that I have taken away from this is how to make an ID tag and how to use a lot of tools that I have never used before.

Science Experiment Making And Using Cup Phones

Last week in science we did an experiment using cups and some string.

Equipment: 2 Styrofoam Cups. Nylon String (Fishing Line) and Nail to poke a hole.

Method: At the start we had to grab two cups and get a buddy. We would then write our name in the bottom of our cup. Then we got a nail and pocked a hole in the bottom of the cup for the string to go through. Once you put the string through the hole you then need to make a knot in it so that it does not go back through the hole. Once you do that one person puts the cup up to their and and the other up to their mouth. You then pull the string until it is tight a speak. The person with it up to there ear should be able to hear the other person and long as the string is tight and the string is not touching anything.

Redesigning My ID Tag Metal Work

This was the finished result of my 3D print but when we were trying to get the back off it a bit fully snapped off. Now I am going to redesign it and make it better. Some things I need to do is make a hole a bit longer and I need to make the tag a little bit smaller. I am also might make the name a bit bigger but I will keep the dog paw the same. I am also going to make it so that the words and the paw is an indent instead of poking out of the peace.

As you can see in this photo there is no hole

In this photo it has the hole but it does not go all the way through. You can also see that when I was trying to get the bottom plate off the back came off as well. That is another reason why I am going to be changing the design around and making it better.

This is what my new design is going to look like. I have made it a bit smaller and the words and paw are not going to be sticking out like the first design was.
What do you think of my new design?
