 Dissecting The Camera

The guts of the camera:

In a camera, you have the aperture, shutter, gate, and film. The aperture is the opening in the lens that lets a certain amount of light through that changes the amount of light that you can see. The shutter is a part that will open and close at different speeds to either let the light through or keep the light out. This might open fast to have a flashing effect on the scene. The light will then pass through the gate which is in front of the film. When the film is exposed to light it will retain what you are recording.

A camera is a collection of parts that can help you tell a visual story. It takes in light through a lens and captures images, creating that illusion of reality we keep talking about.

Different Microphone Patterns

The microphone pattern is the shape that is around the microphone which affects what sound is recorded and what sound gets blocked out. You will have some that will record sound from all around you and you can have some that will only record sound that is in the direction that it is facing. You can also get some that will only record sound from the sides and front of the other way around. There are a lot of patterns which means that if you want to block out sound from one direction you can.

And the sad thing is: you don't often really notice good sound recording and design. Even though it takes just as much technical know-how and artistry as visual storytelling does. 

The Director

An actor's job is to bring a character to life. And we need actors to think real thoughts and feel real feelings to make the film relatable.

This is incredibly demanding work, so it's up to the director to ensure that the actors have a safe place to explore their characters and to take risks. 

To give an actor the confidence they need to inhabit a character, a director must give clear, actionable directions.

A triangle is called an equilateral triangle when all 3 sides are equal in length. These are normally 60o

A triangle is called an isosceles triangle when two sides are equal in length

Scalene triangle

When all three internal angles are different from one another it is a Scalene Triangle.

Maths: Indices with positive and negative numbers

For the past week in math, we have been learning about multiplying positive and negative numbers as well as learning what indices are. 

When you are multiplying and at least one of the numbers are negative you are going to get a negative. If you have two positives you are obviously going to get a positive number but if you multiply a negative by a negative number you are going to get a positive. 

What are Indices?

An indices is a small number that you will see sitting above another number. When you see indices this means that you will multiply the number it is above by itself that many times. An example of this is if you had 3^2 you would times 3 by itself twice so 3x3 which would be 9. But if you have -3^2 you would multiply -3x-3 which would give you a positive. If you have got an even number as your indices like 4 even if you have a positive and a negative you are going to end up with a positive number. This is because if you multiply a negative by a negative you get a positive and if you are multiplying a number multiple times it is going to switch between positive and negative answers. All you need to know is if the indices are even it is going to be a positive number and if the indices are odd you are going to end if a negative number. This will only work if you have got one negative in the equation if you have all positives it will always be a positive answer.

The Freedom Writers

 For the last three days in English my class and another class have been watching the movie The Freedom Writers. The movie is a teacher and the students in her class. Over the time of two years the teacher takes her students and gives them chances and experiences that they have never had before. The teacher brings all of the people in the class together so that they all know each other and no longer have any problems with each other.

At the start of the movie when everyone has just started a lot of the kids had problems with each other and a lot of them would not even turn up for a while. Once the teacher finally figured out there issues she gave them all books for them to write anything in. 

I like the fact that even when the teacher was running low on money and when no one agreed with her she just kept on going by getting more jobs to pay for trips and she never gave up on her students even if they did not want anything to do with her.

International Women's Day

 Last week we were given the task from our teacher to look through a slide and pick a task to do which evolved international women day. I picked the task where I have to make a poster and include some information that was given to us about international women's day. 

Free School Lunches

At the start of this week my school started to make free school lunches for everyone in the school. The reason we get this food is because of all of the staff that work in the cafe. Every day we get a different meal starting Monday-Friday. This week on Monday we had Pita Bread Pizza which could be meat lovers or vegetarian, and it came with a brownie and a peace of fruit.

On Tuesday we had a roll which had either chicken or hummus and egg, it also came with some popcorn and a peace of fruit.

On Wednesday we had pasta salad with roast vegetables with either chicken or falafel, it also came with corn chips and a peace of fruit.

On Thursday we had a sandwich with salad and slaw as well as a peace of slice and some fruit. 

And on Friday we are having a Rice Buddha Bowl with slaw and either chicken tenders or falafel which comes with peace of fruit.

It was uncomfortable because it feels weird to be sitting with other people that you don't know that well. I think that the food has been really good and that the people who work in the cafe are doing a really good job. The one that I liked the most so far is the Meat Lovers Pita Bread Pizza. I liked it the most so far because it had lots of flavour. 

Wananga Emotions

 For the last couple of weeks in Wananga we have been focusing on our Emotions. We have been learning that your emotions come from your thoughts and sometimes your mind will just try to trick you by making you worry about something but then their is nothing to worry about. A couple of the quotes we read were "Emotions aren't good or bad. They are messengers". Another is "You don't have to be at your lowest to ask for help".
