English Figurative Language Recap

Today in English we have to search up the definitions of a couple of different words, the first word is.

Figurative Language: Figurative language is when you use a word or a phrase that does not have a normal literal meaning. An example for this could be the grass looked like spikes on the back of a hedgehog.

Literal Language: Literal language is the way that you use a word by there primary meaning. An example for this could be the grass was green.

Simile: A simile is a way of describing something in more detail like you could say the sky looked like the raging sea.

Alliteration: Alliteration is when you keep using the same starting letter in a sentence an example for this is Sam sold sea shells by the sea shore.

Onomatopoeia: Is a word that actually looks like the sound it makes. An example for this could be the scary scorpion crept away.

Metaphor: A metaphor is a figure of speak. An example of this is my dad was super mad.

Hyperbole: Is when you use exaggeration an example of this is that feels like it weights a ton.

Assonance: when two or more words close to one another repeat the same vowel sound. An example of this is We fight fire on the mountain.

Idiom: comprising two or more words an example of this is Every cloud has its silver lining but it is sometimes a little difficult to get it to the mint.

Personification: representation of an abstract quality in human form. An example of this is her heart skipped a beat.

Consonance: Repetitive sounds in the same sentence or phrase. An example of this is She ate sixteen sandwiches on a sunny day.
