My Remote Controlled Life

It started as a normal Monday. I got ready for school and walked down my street and turned the
corner just before the school and spotted something shiny in the gutter. It was a remote, It had
a smooth golden coating over it the buttons were diamonds and it just sparkled in the sun. I
was in such a rush so I quickly picked it up and put it in my bag and then kept walking to school. 

I just made it to maths in time so I sat down and started doing work. Just before the end of the
period I remembered that I had the remote in the bag. I reached down into my bag and
grabbed it out. My friend (Harry) was watching and asked me where I found it so I told him
what happened. I was in the middle of telling Harry what happened when the teacher turned
around and asked me why I had a remote in my hands. 

The teacher then started talking about how I need to start paying more attention in class
because otherwise I would not be learning anything and then I would never get anywhere
after school because I had bad grades.When he was talking I started thinking, what if there
was a way to stop someone talking with a click of a button? I had completely forgot that I
had the remote in my hand and as a joke I clicked the mute button as I was pointing the
remote at the teacher and then I could not hear his voice.

I looked up and the teacher's mouth was still moving but there were no words coming out.
Me and Harry looked at each other and the class looked around. Everyone was stunned
that by clicking the mute button on the remote no one could hear the teacher.I clicked it
again and then everyone could hear the teachers voice again. I had no clue what to think I
now have the power to mute teachers when I don’t want to hear what they are talking about.

I waited until the next period when we had English and once again aimed the remote at the
teacher and the next thing I knew I could not hear a single thing that the teacher was saying
so I kept on doing this until morning tea when I thought I wonder if it can mute people that
are not teachers? So I pointed it at my friend Harry clicked the mute button and I heard nothing.
I clicked it again and I could hear him, I was amazed I could mute anyone I wanted to.

It had now been a couple of weeks since I had found the remote and I had been muting
every teacher I saw and anyone I did not want to listen to. When my friend Harry got a
chance he kept telling me maybe I should stop playing with the remote and actually do
some work because it had been two weeks now and I had done nothing.

Before Harry could say anything else I quickly pressed the mute button and then walked
away like he was saying nothing. The next class we had was maths and Harry was in that
class so I just kept muting him when he tried to talk to me. At one point in class I asked if I
could get a drink so I went outside. When I was gone Harry grabbed the remote out of
my bag and hid it.

When I got back I started looking for it so I asked Harry and he said nothing. I had
remembered that I muted him and now that the remote was gone he could not say anything.
I followed him home from school but when we got to his house he locked me outside so I just
sat on the step until someone opened the door. I must have been sitting there for about two
hours when I heard something heavy hitting the ground. I never saw the remote again….
